When it comes to cocktails, everyone in Calgary knows that the caesar wears a golden crown of taste and style. It’s a Canadian classic for a reason and over the years we’ve seen, tasted, and devoured each new spin master mixologists have concocted from coast to coast. 

The base layer is always the same (fundamentals matter folks), an iconic tomato juice with a kick of spice but beyond that imagination takes over to create unique and daring flavours. Trust us, your tastebuds can tell the difference between good and great. Here at The Caesar Shop we’re always on the lookout for the next incredible innovation that stirs our minds and the contents of our glasses, but until the next revolution arrives we’ve put together a list of four fantastic caesars to choose from.

1. BBQ: This smoky twist on tradition is a tantalizing blend. It’s like sipping on a summer barbeque in a savoury cocktail. You can practically feel the breeze when you taste the rich flavours of hickory, grilled meat, and touch of sweetness. The indulgent among you might add a rim of smoky sea salt, a dash of Worcestershire sauce, and a hint of chipotle to really build on the theme.

2. Dill Pickle: Love the tangy crunch of a delicious dill pickle? We do. They’re good on their own but in a caesar… Game changer! Adding pickle brine and a garnish of pickles produces palpable, puckering pleasure. Call it quirky but we won’t judge, the real ones know it’s a savoury snack in a drink.

3. Spicy: Do you like it hot? Because we’re all about turning up the heat! Heat-seekers (otherwise known as Flames fans) can cheer all night long because this caesar blends hot sauces, jalapeños, and a hint of horseradish. After one glass you’ll yearn for the burn, it’s an unconventional solution to those cold winter nights but still… kinda perfect?

4. Vegan: Some drinks don’t cater to those who prefer a plant-based diet but the caesar is full of culinary surprises. Supplant (get it?) traditional clamato juice for a combo of vegetable juice, soy sauce, and your choice of vegan-friendly seasonings for a refreshing, cruelty-free spirit that doesn’t skimp on the flavour. We recommend topping it off with a few avocado slices or a vegan cheese garnish for an extra treat.

So, how many ways can you make a caesar? The answer, to no one's surprise, is a lot. Grab a stock of fresh celery to swirl because, clearly, the caesar is perfectly capable of blending a wide variety of ingredients.
